It’s been a while since our last communication around the Waterkracht project. We have not been sitting still since its launch last January.

Pilot tests

The Ekopak team has just completed the first pilot tests in Antwerp. At the Vlaamse Milieu Maatschappij’s Rode Weel pumping station, 5 pilot containers of Ekopak have been in service from June 2022 to March 2023. The purpose of these pilot containers was to test the water quality. Based on this, we can decide which technologies to apply to get the water to the level of process water for the industry. That way we will know exactly which installation to build in the new water plant.

NextGen site – new water plant

Last June, the concession was acquired on the NextGen District to build a water plant of the future. This 2-acre parcel was the former Opel site. In this plant, Ekopak will upgrade the delivered treated wastewater into cooling water for the Port of Antwerp.

Currently, we are working together with SWECO to obtain an approved MER report and the environmental permit. The conceptual design of the plant has now also been finalized.

Great steps have already been made in the Waterkracht project. We will keep you further informed about the progress of the project!
